AI headshots or a studio photoshoot?
Compare the preparation, creative control, cost and identity tradeoffs before choosing a professional profile photo. The right option depends on what the image needs to do.
Start with where the photo will be used
An online profile update and a company-wide portrait campaign have different requirements. For a LinkedIn avatar or a personal website, you may want several new outfits and backgrounds from photos you already have. A studio session is more suitable when you need a photographer to direct your pose, capture a particular expression or deliver a consistent commissioned brief.
AI headshots vs professional photography
| Consideration | AI headshots | Studio photography |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation | Upload suitable reference photos and choose styles. | Book a session and discuss clothing, grooming and the brief. |
| Creative control | Choose supported styles; exact facial details and outfits may vary. | Direct lighting, pose, expression and wardrobe with the photographer. |
| Identity and detail | Generated details need careful review for likeness and artifacts. | Starts from a new photograph of you; retouching choices still matter. |
| Cost | Morrow: $9.90 USD for 12 images, up to 2 looks. | Ask for a local quote and check image selection and retouching fees. |
| Timing | No studio appointment; generation and any recovery still take time. | Allow for the appointment, selection and editing schedule. |
When AI can be a practical starting point
AI can be useful when you already have clear reference photos and want to explore a few professional looks without arranging a shoot. It gives you alternatives to review, not a promise that every image will be suitable. Choose a package by its actual delivered image count, supported looks and photo handling, rather than judging it only by a polished sample gallery.
Morrow’s public gallery uses fictional AI subjects. It demonstrates style, not a real customer transformation. Upload your own recent images and compare generated results with your appearance before using them.
When to choose a photographer
Choose a photographer when accurate wardrobe, a specific location, live direction or a tightly controlled company brief matters more than trying different generated styles. Discuss licensing, retouching and delivery requirements before booking. For official identification or any image that must document a real event, follow the receiving organization’s photo rules; a generated portrait may not qualify.
Check privacy and the next steps
Before uploading a face photo, check who can access it, which image processor receives it, when files expire and how deletion works. With Morrow, references belong to your private account; generation sends a reference collage and prompt to the selected processor after you confirm. Deleting files on this website does not establish that a processor’s copy has also been deleted.
